User Testers

A key activity in conducting user tests is the recruiting and scheduling of suitable user testers. One way that we recruit users is from our growing database of user test participants in the Athens and Atlanta areas. Another typical means of recruiting users is to begin with a client's customer database or list. We contact people on the list and ask them questions from a screener (a screener is a list of questions that only allows through people that meet all of the qualifying criteria). Occasionally, Usography runs public advertisements requesting users who meet a specific set of criteria to contact us.

Most Usography testing is accomplished with one of the following audience segments:

  • e-Retail consumers
  • Corporate employees
  • 18 - 29 year old demographic

Usography's experience with these three segments is discussed below.

e-Retail consumers

Usography has experience testing e-Retail web sites with consumers identified by the e-Retailers themselves. We work with market research agencies to find just the right mix of research participants. Usography has the experience and the methodology to find the barriers that get in the way of a successful transaction, whether the user interface is on a web site, a handheld device, or on an in-store kiosk.

Corporate employees

Usography has conducted many user tests for corporations using their own employees as test subjects. Whether flight attendants at Delta or media personalities at Cox Broadcast or restaurant owners for Chick-fil-A, Usography knows how to model employee needs so that user interfaces of employee portals and web applications can be optimized and design ROI realized.

18 - 29 year old demographic

Usography is next door to a major state university, which is a perpetual source of people in the 18 - 29 year old demographic. This age group has a disproportionate percentage of people who use web sites to complete transactions such as paying bills online or buying items online with a credit card. They also use a variety of personal technology devices. Although the skill level of this population is higher than the general population, there is more than enough variation in skill levels to uncover design problems.
